transduction pathway Empty transduction pathway

I think we discussed this in class, but it wasn't very clear. To what extent do we have to know the transduction pathway? Just the variables that are involved, such as the G protein, cAMP, and protein kinase A, or do we have to know the whole pathway and the relationship between them? It's been mentioned several times in the gustatory, olfactory, and LTP sections in the book, but not in detail.

I would know the path way in detail, not just what's involved. So in review when the pathway was explained step by step, you should also understand and be able to explain that Binding of a molecule to a receptor will activate a G-protein which then goes and activates Adenylyl cyclase. This in turn changes ATP-cAMP, etc etc. So i don't think it would be sufficient to only know what is involved and not understand how all the components interact with each other. Hope that answers your question.
